1. The Difference Between Bees and Wasps

However, wasps are known to be more aggressive and can sting multiple times without causing injury to themselves. 


2. Where They Build Nests

Unlike a bees’ nest, which is made of wax and resembles honeycombs, a wasps’ nest will look like a swirling hive made of gray paper or clay. Wasps generally build nests in outlying enclaves: attics, awnings, voids in building walls, bushes, mailboxes, decks, and even tree logs are all ideal spots. 


They will usually stay outside where it’s warm and dry, but if it gets cold and rainy, they may try to find shelter in tight openings around your home. If they discover that your home is a source of food, they will begin to build their nests near you. Before calling pest control, it’s important to make sure any opening in your home is secure, and that you’re never leaving any unsealed food or garbage lying around.


3. How to Avoid Being Stung

To keep wasps from coming near you or your family, take special precautions that will keep them at bay. For example, wasps are attracted to certain scents, so don’t wear perfumes and switch to odorless hair products. If a wasp is near you, don’t make any sudden movements. Moving slowly will keep them from getting irritated. 


Your skin is more protected when you wear heavier layers, but because many stingers can penetrate clothes, and wearing heavy clothes is uncomfortable in warmer seasons, you should only dress in layers when you’re around a hive, rather than all the time. And because wasps are attracted to colors and patterns, wear white clothes to avoid looking too interesting.
